Dreadstone Blight progress, part 1

It took about two days of puzzling the pieces together, but I managed to assemble my Dreadstone Blight kit for the Mordheim table I’ve been building. I still need to go out and buy some textured paint to finish off the base tile, but as you can tell from the picture below it is a very impressive building!

A bluer shade of pale

I know, I know; not really a very original title, but I seem to be drawing a blank when it comes to clever titles. Maybe I ought to stop trying to be clever and just get to the point. Which in this case is my Space Marines battle company.

I first started work on my battle company about a year ago. It includes everything that makes up a functioning battle company according to the Apocalypse datasheet and the Space Marine codex, with the slight exception that I field them as Blood Angels instead of “regular” Space Marines. The idea was to use a mainly silver colour scheme to represent the now defunct chapter of the Knights Sanguine, but a year on I’ve only ever managed to paint a single squad out of the 4,000pts worth of Marines that makes up the battle company.

As the local Games Workshop store does not allow people to play in-store using unpainted miniatures this mean I’ve been forced to play at home with only my dad as an opponent, which means I face Dark Angels in every single game I play. So instead I’m going to redo the entire chapter with a new name and history (as yet undetermined) and use the Lord of the Rings Army of the Dead colour-scheme to make an entire chapter full of ghostly Space Marines.

I’ll keep you posted on my (hopefully accelerated) progress!

Descent into the depths of Mordheim

After a talk with my dad we decided to get into Mordheim about a month ago. It would mark the second time I gave the game a try and an introduction to it all for my dad. No games have been played so far and in fact my dad is still working on his warband roster, but we’re definitely starting to get somewhere.

For a start my dad has already decided what warband to go with (Marienburg Mercenaries, due to the extra gold crowns they get on start-up) and I’ll get to convert his miniatures once his roster has been locked down. My own warband has been ready and assembled for a few weeks now; after we decided to start Mordheim I immediately went out and bought some Savage Orcs to build an Orcs and Goblins warband.

Then there is the playing area. I went for a 4’x4’ set-up filled with number of 1’x1’ tiles with ruins and one big 2’x2’ tile with a graveyard on it that I built using the new Garden of Morr kit. At the moment I’m still putting the finishing touches to the graveyard, but I hope to start working on the ruins as quickly as possible.

As playing with only 2 warbands will probably get boring rather quickly I’m already looking at a secondary warband to use, but I intend to get a few games under my belt before making a final choice.
